Contents
Metronidazole 750 mg, miconazole nitrate 200 mg
Indications/Uses
Candidal vulvovaginitis due to Candida albicans, in bacterial vaginosis due to anaerobic bacteria & Gardnerella vaginalis, in trichomonal vaginitis due to Trichomonas vaginalis & in mixed vag infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Insert 1 vag supp at night & in the morning in supine position for 7 days. Recurrent vaginitis or vaginitis resistant to treatment 1 vag supp once daily in the evening for 14 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to metronidazole & miconazole nitrate including nitroimidazole derivatives. Epilepsy; porphyria; severe liver function impairment. Pregnancy (1st trimester) & lactation. Childn <18 yr (virgins).
Special Precautions
Not to be swallowed or applied by other routes. For vag use only. Patients w/ alteration of hematopoietic function, w/ central & peripheral nervous system disorders. Avoid sexual contact during treatment. Can reduce efficacy of local contraception (preservatives, vag diaphragms). Do not take w/ alcohol during treatment & for 3 days after the end of the treatment due to possibility of disulfiram-like reaction. May change the transaminase values & glycemia. May affect driving & using machines. Not to be used in childn <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Pain or abdominal spasms, metallic taste, xerostomia, constipation, diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting; headache, motor abnormalities (ataxia), vertigo, psycho-emotional disorders, peripheral neuropathy (on long-term use), cramps; leucopenia; dark-brown coloration of urine; urticaria, prurigo of teguments, eruption; itching, burning, pain & irritation of vag mucosa.
Drug Interactions
Increased cyclosporin toxicity. Metronidazole: Disulfiram-like reactions w/ alcohol. Increases risk of cardiotoxicity w/ amiodarone. Inhibition of metabolism & increased plasma conc w/ astemizole & terfenadine. Psychotic reactions w/ disulfiram. Increased blood levels of phenytoin; fluorouracil; lithium. Decreased blood levels w/ phenobarb. Increased blood conc of carbamazepine. Increased anticoagulation effects w/ oral anticoagulants. Increase in cyclosporine toxicity risk. Increased blood levels & risk of neurologic side effects w/ cimetidine. Interference of blood levels of liver enzymes w/ theophylline & procainamide. Miconazole: Increased risk of bleeding w/ acenocoumarol, anisindione, dicoumarol, phenindione, phenprocoumon, warfarin. Inhibits metabolism & increase plasma conc of astemizole, cisapride & terfenadine. Risk of phenytoin & fosphenytoin, trimetrexate toxicity. Increased or prolonged effects of CNS/resp depression w/ fentanyl. Increase hypoglycemic action of glimepiride. Decrease carbamazepine metabolism. Increased plasma conc w/ oxybutinin, oxycodone. Increased cardiotoxicity risk w/ pimozide. Increase tolterodine bioavailability.
